ABOUT
About More More Matcha
More More Matcha was created to bring authentic Japanese matcha—and the calm moments it inspires—into everyday life in New Zealand.
To me, matcha is more than just a drink. It is a moment to slow down, breathe, and appreciate the simple rituals that bring calm to our busy lives.
A Childhood Shaped by Tea
Growing up in Shizuoka gave me an appreciation for Japanese tea from an early age.
Tea was never something reserved for special occasions. It was simply part of everyday life.
Every year, my family received freshly harvested tea from relatives who once ran a tea farm. It was a seasonal tradition we all looked forward to, and I still remember the fresh aroma that filled our home.
As a child, I often visited my relatives during the first harvest season. Walking through the tea fields, watching the fresh leaves being picked, and seeing how much care went into growing tea are memories that have stayed with me ever since.
My mother always chose first-harvest tea when giving tea as a gift.
"This one will make them happy."
Growing up, I learned that tea wasn't just something to drink.
It was a way of showing kindness, gratitude, and care for others.
That feeling became the foundation of More More Matcha.
Rediscovering Japanese Tea Abroad
Living overseas made me realise something I had never appreciated before.
Finding genuinely good Japanese tea wasn't easy.
Every trip home to Japan ended with my suitcase full of tea so I could continue the daily tea ritual I had grown up with.
When I later moved to New Zealand, I was excited to see matcha becoming popular.
But many matcha drinks tasted more like sweet green milk than matcha.
Even powders sold in stores often contained sugar, flavourings, or unclear organic claims.
It made me wonder:
What if I could share the taste of real Japanese matcha with people in New Zealand?
Choosing Matcha with Care
That question led me back to Japan.
Rather than choosing matcha from a catalogue, I wanted to understand the people behind it.
Having spent 14 years working in supply chain across food, manufacturing, and retail, I have always believed that quality depends on what happens behind the scenes—from sourcing and production to packaging, storage, and transport.
I met with trusted tea producers and tea professionals, visited tea manufacturers, compared different matcha, learned more about sourcing, production, and quality, and carefully selected the matcha that best reflected the values of More More Matcha.
Every decision was guided by one simple question:
“Would this be the matcha I would proudly serve to my own family and friends?”
Always Learning
My journey with tea continues.
To deepen my understanding of Japanese tea culture, I began studying the Japanese tea ceremony.
The more I learn, the more I appreciate that matcha is about far more than flavour or colour.
It is about hospitality.
Mindfulness.
Respect.
And creating a quiet moment in the middle of everyday life.
Those lessons continue to shape the way I choose, enjoy, and share matcha.
A Philosophy Close to My Heart
For many years, yoga has been part of my life and has taught me to value quiet moments, mindful movement, and the importance of simply being present.
Perhaps that is why I have always been drawn to the calm ritual of preparing tea.
For me, matcha and yoga share something simple: they both create a moment to slow down, breathe, and return to the present.
This idea of making space in everyday life is at the heart of More More Matcha.
Bringing Japanese Tea Culture to New Zealand
When I started More More Matcha, my goal wasn't simply to sell matcha.
I wanted to share a small part of Japanese tea culture in a way that naturally fits everyday life in New Zealand.
For centuries, matcha has been part of moments of hospitality, reflection, and connection in Japan. I hope to share a small part of that tradition with people here in New Zealand.
Through More More Matcha, I hope more people can experience those same moments, whether they prepare matcha traditionally with a whisk or simply enjoy it as part of their morning routine.
Choosing Matcha for Everyday Life
The matcha I selected is:
- Made from first-harvest tea leaves only
- Certified organic (JAS)
- Smooth, naturally sweet, and easy to enjoy every day
- Free from additives, colouring, and sugar
Smooth, balanced, and made to be enjoyed every day. Authentic Japanese matcha without unnecessary additives or compromises.
A Moment of "Ma"
One idea that inspires More More Matcha is the Japanese concept of Ma (間)—the quiet space between moments.
Life can be busy.
A cup of matcha offers a gentle pause.
Whether it's your first cup in the morning or a short break during the afternoon, I hope every cup helps you slow down, breathe, and enjoy a small moment of calm.
As I continue studying the Japanese tea ceremony, I am constantly reminded that great matcha is never only about taste.
It is about respect for the tea, appreciation for the people who produce it, and the simple joy of sharing a bowl with others.
Those values continue to guide every decision I make at More More Matcha.

That is why we are committed to:
